an icon that goes direct to the editor C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 2021\PremiereElementsEditor.exe Switch to Expert mode to enter my custom settings for editing (one time operation) -Click Edit-Project Settings-General --the default is 1920x1080 with no way to select a different default --OK, I've read in a tutorial that PrE will auto-adjust to my 1280x720 30fps video -Click Edit-Preferences-General --GTX750 is supported (per requirements page) but my GTX760 is not -https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-elements/hardware-gtx750-yes-gtx760-no/td-p/11628727?page=1 --I filled out the Beta tester form to see if someone will contact me to add my card ---I was contacted, but the program I was given did not work to add my GPU for some reason --I only looked at General & Audio & Auto Save & Capture --In Media I changed the location to my temp drive, E:\Adobe --In ScratchDisks I changed each location to my temp drive, E:\Adobe -I do not find a way to change the location of the project file to my temp drive --seems to be in C:\Users\jtsmi_000\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Elements\19.0 --where jtsmi_000 is MY Windows user identity, so YOURS will be different --I did read that when I go to Expert mode and create a new project I can select location --I'll verify that location setting when I actually create a project (see Step 3) Next is to create my first, test project In Editor select Expert mode, then File New Project -give it a name, and select Browse to go to E:\Adobe -change video setting to HDV 720P to match my camera 1280x720 30fps video -click add media from folders and select a few, added to Project Assets list -drag one to timeline and move it to right to leave room on the left for titles -select a title and edit the title in the upper viewing window and place on timeline at left -starts at "default" of Motion Titles --click double right arrow to see Classic Titles General --click double right arrow to see Classic Titles Entertainment ---and so on for all the title categories -right click title on timeline select Clip & Time Stretch & Duration -some titles are built in, ones with a 'bar' in the upper right corner download to be able to use -will take awhile to figure out exactly how to use the "Default Roll" title to make it work --starts with blank screen, rolls up and ends with blank screen... speed determined by Time Stretch -added transitions between clips, easy to select and drag/drop between clips So far, using 1280x720 30fps video and the HDV 720P project setting, my timeline is smooth Since I don't plan to ever edit 4k video, I'm not going to worry about GPU acceleration If I create a new project, and don't specify a video setting, PrE sets the timeline to AVCHD 720p Interlude - an nVidia driver problem The trial program had worked to burn a DVD... with, of course, the trial notice on the video To get ready for the 'real' program I UN-stalled the trial... and I also updated my nvidia driver to the latest Nov 2020 457.30 version, which was a BIG mistake for my card from 2013 After I installed from the PrE-2021 disc I bought from Amazon I did some testing Adding video & transistion to my timeline worked Sharing to a computer file worked Sharing to disc froze the program, and it evenually displayed a not responding message I UN-installed the nvidia driver 457.30 and installed 331.82 from the MSI disc -the oldest driver at the nvidia site was 445.87 from April 2020 so I skipped that After installing the original 331.82 driver I did some more testing THIS time clicking to share to disc worked, and I was able to create an ISO file So... my MSI GTX760 card from 2013 is not fully compatible with the newest nvidia driver -I have NO idea why that caused the program to freeze, but the solution was the old driver https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-elements/share-to-disc-freezes-program-win10-pre-2021-solved/td-p/11641007?page=1 I also discovered that Share-Disc will go direct to burning a disc, or to create an ISO but it will not create the file structure of a DVD, so it doesn't seem that I will be able to use Imgburn to write the DVD structure to a CD for testing... Oh well, I bought a bulk stack of 100 DVD blanks and I haven't used many... so I have enough for some test writes https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-elements/writing-an-iso-to-disc-using-imgburn/td-p/11645015?page=1 ADDED... Imgburn will write a movie ISO to a CD-R (if it will fit) A CD-R has a capacity of 650-to-700 Meg, depending on brand and model The test CD-R I created played on my computer, I don't know about a player at a TV https://www.imgburn.com/ to write files or folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay Send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program - DO be sure to uncheck anything included that you don't want from the "freeware" download site... AND Imgburn will write any files/folders to a disc, so you can use it for general backup ADDED2... CD-R gives "disc format not supported" message in my Samsung DVD/BD player So while I'm testing PrE functions on a CD-R I'll just use my computer DVD drive Next will be to put markers in the timeline and then figure out how to create a DVD with a menu -first, I'm going to spend a few days reading the Steve Grisetti book that I bought -reading about Titles starting on page 143, Menus starting on page 249 For my testing I un-checked Add Menu Markers Automatically when selecting a menu -to start with a simple menu with only one option... Play Movie -later went back and added a Main Menu Marker to add a 2nd play option on the main menu Next will be to continue reading and learning the "nooks & crannies" of the program -this will take time, so I'm not going to report every detail here -the you tube videos got me started, the Steve Grisetti book I bought helped a lot more I use VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html as my video player -both for video files on my computer drive, and for a movie disc While testing STOP MARKERS mentioned on pages 250-251 of the book, I discovered 2 things 1 - the preview function in the program STOPS at the marker, it does not return to the menu 2 - the return to main menu from the stop marker works when playing a disc with VLC HOWEVER - the movie also returns to the menu at the stop marker point when trying to play the entire movie - therefore anything after the stop marker is ignored when trying to play the entire movie - so put a stop marker at the end of the movie, and "added scenes" AFTER the end of the movie - with each added scene having a stop marker, to make each scene return to the main menu NOTE - unless I say otherwise, I always work in EXPERT mode Added 12-7-2020 Page 125 in the Steve Grisetti book... Gamma-Brighness adjustment I recorded a video today... on an overcast day... to be able to learn about changing brightness After copying the video from my camera to my input SSD I imported into the program Click Edit-Adjustments and then select Gamma in the option window that opens on the right side Gamma adjustment shows as a 'box' of 9 options - 3 across by 3 down As far as I can tell, the video starts in the center box Clicking any of the other boxes makes the video get brighter or darker A yellow line appears over the video after clicking an option The line turns green after clicking Render If Canada opens cruise ports, I will be ready for cloudy days on a cruise to Alaska -US law requires a foreign registered ship that goes out of a US port to stop at a foreign -port... my May 2020 cruise was cancelled due to Covid, so now I'm hoping for May 2021 Added 12-11-2020 GPU Acceleration SUCCESS !!! As I've mentioned before, the nvidia GTX750 is supported by default, my GTX760 is not I filled out the contact page and was sent the update program... I ran it, and it did nothing Later I read a message from another nvidia owner, who had to run the update multiple times I went back to where I had saved the program and ran it three times in a row... SUCCESS !!! My project settings now show that I have CUDA GPU hardware acceleration enabled I added a video to my project that needed to be adjusted, and then clicked to RENDER Subjectively (without having a stop watch) the render process ran quicker than before So, if your card isn't in the default support list, fill out the contact form Now, for something different... what I use to make a boot disk backup in case of problems Hardware crashes or virus infections or simple software problems happen, so you should buy AND USE software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus, making step-by-step backups during a new setup or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work... I have had to do this once when a program install didn't work properly (a different program, not Adobe) and I had to do a restore due to my drive being SO messed up that I couldn't even uninstall the bad program . This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer requires extra steps due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware) . The product I bought and use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm . Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may not only restore the image over a messed up install, you may restore to a brand new drive in case of a hardware crash, and not have to re-install anything (my version 2x DOES require me to restore to a same size drive... I think the current 3x Image program allows restoring to a larger/smaller drive, but check with the vendor to verify) To find Device Manager (and a lot more!) God Mode for Win7 and Win8 and Win10 Create a new folder on your Windows desktop. Copy and paste this name to the folder: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} A video editing computer build for under $1,900 While talking to another user about his planned 2021 build, I made a list of my own I do not do RAID drives, so I only specified SSD drives for this build (one an M.2) I don't know why (I will guess that plants closing due to Covid) but the computer component market is really a mess... by the time I was ready to order, I sometimes had to switch either suppliers or what I bought - the final price, not including shipping and taxes, was $1,889 . The H470 motherboard was out of stock, so I moved up to a Z490 motherboard but that change did allow me to buy faster ram to go with an M.2 boot drive . Change CSM from disabled to enabled - The CSM option is in MY FAVORITES in ADVANCED BIOS mode Change Boot from Storage from Legacy to UEFI + Legacy (*) Change Boot from PCI-E from Legacy to UEFI Also do 'drag/drop' to move DVD ahead of M.2 in boot order - This option is in EZ BIOS mode... to be able to boot from a DVD Also go to bios and change ram speed to 2933 to match CPU specification - this after reading the CPU specification page at Intel (*) I have an extra computer built with mostly spare parts - the extra uses the same asus z490-p motherboard as my pc - and also an m.2 'ssd stick' mounted on the motherboard - while experimenting (on the extra, not my daily use pc) -- Windows 11 requires 'secure boot' to be able to install -- secure boot requires uefi only for the system drive -- the z490-p will NOT boot from the m.2 in uefi only mode - SO when Win10 support stops in 2025 I will need to replace - the motherboard in my computer to be able to install Win11 -- I will, of course, start with the extra computer !!! See https://community.adobe.com/t5/video-hardware-discussions/windows-11-and-your-hardware/td-p/12457549 - my 10-28-21 message describes a Registry change that is supposed to allow installing Win11 - the Registry change did not work, I think due to needing UEFI + Legacy to use the M.2 drive - oh well, when Microsoft stops supporting Win10 in 2025 I will buy a new motherboard or computer Finally have old computer cleaned and ready to go away, so was able to go back to my video project NOTE that this is all 'subjective' since I don't have a stopwatch, and I didn't think to search for a computer timer until afterwards When I share to a DVD ISO it now takes 'less than' 1/4 the time it took on my old computer... so I am very happy with my new build This new computer is even quieter than my old computer (and it wasn't very loud) since the case fans are 'large and slow spinning' to cool without making a lot of noise If you don't already have a system monitor, go to https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html to be able to see what your hardware is doing https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html All temps Celsius - Drives M.2 89 SSD1 75 SSD2 70 GTX1650 80 Motherboard 75 CPU 89 (room temp thermostat is set to 68F) Fans CPU 530rpm Case1 530rpm Case2 900rpm Case3 560rpm When I was buying components I wanted an RTX2060 with 6Gig to be sure of smooth timeline playback I had to buy a GTX1650 with 4Gig because nobody had the 2060 in stock at that time My 4k test did not have any timeline 'glitches' so I didn't need the 2060 I have slots from https://www.masque.com/category/71/card-casino -the slot games I have don't need a super fast video card I will not buy a 4k camera, but I did want to test my new computer with some 4k video I downloaded some sample files from https://4ksamples.tumblr.com/ I have the HEIF and HEVC codecs... I didn't install them, so I presume they came with Win10 H.264 and HEVC inside an MP4 wrapper work... HEVC inside an ENCM wrapper won't play or load Anyway, the MP4 files work just fine on the timeline, I don't notice any playback delays or artifacts... so my computer with Premiere Elements 2021 works just fine with 4k video Final 4k test on 1-16-21 Shared to a DVD ISO file... process for 'about' the same video time as my previous test of 1280x720 video from my camera, on my old computer, took 'about' the same amount of time to process the 4k video down to DVD 720x480 resolution from 4k 3840x2160... so, again, I am happy with my new build My experience creating a DVD Windows 10 Pro 64bit version 20H2 Build 19042.1052 Premiere Elements 2021 Version 19.0 (20210127.daily.2235820) Lite-On DVD writer model IHAS124-14 ImgBurn 2.5.8.0 Taiyo Yuden single layer blanks Verbatim dual layer blanks I create an ISO with PE2021 and I have ImgBurn configured to use a write speed of 1x... it will auto adjust to the slowest speed possible with the combination of disc and writer All discs I create play just fine in my Samsung BD-J5100 player at TV (Samsung is about 3 years old) My discs do not play at all (not recognized) in an old (10+ years old?)
